The CUHK Philippine Studies Interdisciplinary Reading Group

We are a group of Filipino scholars affiliated with The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), representing diverse academic backgrounds in the social sciences and humanities. Our interdisciplinary reading group, now in its second year, focuses on addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the Filipino community, both within the Philippines and globally.

Originally formed to foster a broader discourse on Filipino scholarship and Philippine studies, the group has expanded its focus to include diverse topics such as food and transnationalism, infrastructure, kinship, disability history, and media representation. Through this platform, we share book summaries and reviews, offering valuable insights for students and scholars interested in deepening their knowledge of Philippine studies.

Our work is supported by the Research Institute for the Humanities (RIH) at CUHK, whose Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Reading Group Initiative has enabled us to collaborate across disciplines, invite guest speakers, and sustain our website. With this support, we aim to continue creating compelling discussions that bridge local, regional, and global perspectives.
